World’s oldest person, 118, dies

-

The world’s oldest person, nun Lucile Randon, has died aged 118.

Ms Randon, pictured, known as Sister Andre, died in her sleep at her nursing home. She had survived Covid last year.

Born in France on February 11, 1904 – more than a decade before the outbreak of the First World War – she passed away in Toulon, less than a month before she was due to turn 119.

In 2021, Sister Andre, known for her enjoyment of cocktails, claimed she ‘wasn’t scared to die’ during an earlier bout of Covid. She once said ‘only the good Lord knows’ the secret of her longevity. Nursing home spokesman David Tavella said: ‘There is great sadness but it was her desire to join her beloved brother. For her, it’s a liberation.’

The world’s oldest person is now Maria Branyas Morera, of Spain, who is 115.
