SHAKESPEARE’S Hamlet is full of mysteries — and there’s an old, red-bound copy of the play, full of notes and insights, that tackles some of them. For over 100 years — in a tradition started by Sir Johnston ForbesRobinson, the most celebrated Hamlet of Victorian times — the book has been handed over to actors, including Peter O’Toole, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hiddleston, when they were to play the doomed Prince. Jade Anouka talks to various Hamlets, including Derek Jacobi, Adrian Lester and Tessa Parr, and wonders who the next actor to get the book will be.
