After a dog walker’s death,

- Name and address supplied.

THE fatal attack on a dog walker shows the danger of a pack of dogs. There should be a limit of five animals being walked together and the dog walker must be trained and licensed. An 11st Leonberger alone is enough for anyone to cope with.

W. RUMBLE, West Horsley, Surrey.

IT’S high time to introduce a dog licence with a substantial fee. The country is overrun by canines which are allowed to mess and urinate wherever they want. Dog owners think everyone loves their dog and wants to pet it — well, I certainly don’t.

All dogs, regardless of their size or breed, have sharp teeth and claws that are capable of inflicting harm.

DAVID BARNEY, Horncastle, Lincs.

I HAVE four dogs, but never walk more than two at a time. They are docile and loving at home, but in public it may not be possible to control them in a situation

they are not happy with. I have seen two dog handlers walking 16 dogs off the lead in a park. This is unacceptable and a nuisance.

I have no problem with my dogs being muzzled in a public place.

I hope a law is introduced that no more than three muzzled dogs can be walked by one individual.

LuCY HOLT, Potters Bar, Herts. I AM a responsible dog owner and am incredulous at the way people treat their pets. Most are weekend owners of dogs bought on a whim for their cuteness, with no understanding of the breed, its capabilities or character traits. If you can’t spend the time training and walking your dog, then don’t get one. Dogs hate to be dragged around shops.

A happy, well-trained dog is a joy, but this requires time and patience, which is not possible if you have a busy job.

If you don’t train a dog properly, you will have a feral creature sharing the sofa with you and your children.

MAGGIe NuNN, Bridport, Dorset. I WOULD recommend vetting dog walkers. How can one person be in control all the time of dogs of various sizes and different temperaments? Any dog on a lead can feel anxiety if someone is stressed — the animal can’t be blamed.

It’s down to owners to train their dogs. Unfortunately, too many people acquired pets during Covid lockdowns and failed to train them properly.

JANe RIDGeWAY, Maidenhead, Berks. One person can’t control several dogs, especially if they are approached by an aggressive animal.

Dogs are pack animals and will act together if they are threatened. The terms of a licensed dog walker’s insurance should stipulate how many dogs they can exercise at a time.
