WHEN he was abandoned in a car park with blood stains around his neck, things looked bleak for Spike.

But 14 years after Rita Kimball found him and took him home to her family, the chihuahua has been named the planet’s oldest dog by Guinness World Records.

At 23 years and seven days old, Spike, pictured, is almost blind and hard of hearing. But that does not stop him enjoying life on the Kimballs’ farm in Ohio, where his friends include the cows.

Ms Kimball said the family now viewed him ‘like a celebrity’.
