Perfect presenter
RADIO 2’s disregard for its listeners is nothing new. I haven’t forgiven it for dumping Jimmy Young.
He was the perfect presenter and his regular slots on health, law and food were informative and lighthearted. He covered the news and his subtle interrogation of politicians, including Margaret Thatcher, was second to none.
He played every genre from classical to pop, country and jazz — the playlist was never predictable. His greatest talent was making you feel he was talking just to you and not several million listeners.
