EVERYONE ELSE BURNS, 10PM, CH4

SIMON BIRD first found fame as a teenager who stuck out from the crowd in the hit E4 comedy The Inbetweeners; now he’s back, as the father of two teenage children, who also doesn’t fit in. And that’s because he’s the head of a strictly religious family from Manchester who believe the world is going to end any day now. Faith is everything to David Lewis, and he’s determined that his family — son Aaron, wife Fiona and daughter Rachel (Harry Connor, Kate

O’Flynn and Amy James-Kelly, pictured with Bird) — will be saved from eternal damnation, and if that means running drills in the middle of the night then so be it. But until Armageddon arrives, it’s business as usual for the Lewises as they have to live out their lives on Earth like everybody else. And while David covets a role as church elder, his family don’t necessary share his zealotry, with Fiona sneaking off to watch TV with their neighbour, and 17-year-old Rachel ‘on the brink of moral hazards’ for wanting to go to university. This promising new comedy about the down-sides of being a member of a religious cult begins with a double bill and, praise be, it’s lots of fun.
