UNDER THE VINES, ACORN TV

-

UNEXPECTED windfalls from long-lost relatives are a wellloved TV staple, and one such bequest sets up this bubbly, romantic show nicely when buttoned-up London lawyer Louis (Downton’s Charles Edwards) and free-spirited Sydney socialite Daisy (Rebecca Gibney of Flying Doctors fame, pictured with Edwards) each inherit half a New Zealand vineyard. They find the business in a dilapidated state — and the Sauvignon is certainly nothing to write home about — but, after assorted mishaps, agree to run it together. Filming in the picturesque Central Otago wine region was an enjoyable experience for all involved — Gibney admits plenty of the local produce was sampled at the weekends, for research purposes! — and that was plain to see in the original six-part series. Now, it’s time to pour yourself a glass of something nice and settle down to savour the new, second run of this charming comedy drama. As we return to the Oakley Winery, the pair are still trying to ignore the will-they-won’t-they vibes between them, while the local rivalry with snooty Marissa heats up when she engages the services of a renowned French vintner.
