Vocation, not just a job
BETWEEN us, my husband and I worked for the NHS for almost 70 years. You don’t go into the profession for the financial
rewards. We joined the Royal College of Nursing because back then it pledged never to take strike action.
I feel it’s unprofessional and embarrassing to see nurses standing in the street, some in uniform, waving banners and shouting.
From our pension, we manage to donate a few items to our local food bank and the RSPCA every week, so I can only assume some people are living beyond their means and lack budgeting skills.
J. GREEN, Burton upon Trent, Staffs. DURING the pay disputes, trades union leaders representing nurses, paramedics, firemen and teachers constantly refer to their members having to resort to food banks.
Given that providing food for your family should be your top priority, it would be interesting to know what public sector workers are spending their salaries on. STEPHEN LOCKWOOD,
