THE MISSING BROTHER

-

When loved ones leave us early,

We so often feel bereft, They disappear from our lives

And we wonder why they left.

But they still live on inside us,

They dwell within our heart,

They’re always in our deepest thoughts Even though we are apart. We see them in the smallest things,

Their music or their drink, They briefly appear then disappear,

Just as quick as we can blink.

We see them in a crowded room,

And even hear their voice, It’s not something that we look for,

But it seems we have no choice.

We see their face on every street,

And our heart will miss a beat.

We go forward just to check it out,

But we know we must retreat.

We see them as we close our eyes,

Their face as clear as day, That same old happy, cheery smile,

That will not go away. Your face will appear inside the glass

As I finish my beer. I remember the beers we so often shared;

How I wish you were here.
