Lowry’s lost lady could fetch £150,000
A RARE LS Lowry painting worth an estimated £150,000 that has been hidden away in a private collection for decades will go up for auction.
The 7in by 10in portrait of a leaning woman, titled Lady In Waiting, was last seen in public in the Henry Donn Gallery in Manchester in 1978.
Auctioneer Paul Hayes said: ‘The way Lowry captured this posture is simply genius. He will have seen this lady in a town and he has got the mannerism just right.
‘It could [sell] well beyond our estimate.’
The 1964 work by Lowry, who is famed for his ‘matchstick men’ and industrial landscapes, will be sold by Swan Fine Art in OxfordUncovered: shire on Thursday.
