Axe tax rises
ChANCeLLOR Jeremy hunt says he doesn’t want to make ‘unfunded’ tax cuts. Fair enough, but as taxes are already at record levels, why persist in raising them in April, as proposed in his Autumn Statement?
Back then, the markets were in turmoil following Liz Truss’s overexuberance and they needed stabilising. Now this has been accomplished and the situation looks more rosy, not least owing to far larger tax receipts in January than was anticipated, why not scrap all the increases? The Chancellor could also review the freezing of personal and inheritance tax thresholds.
