THIS IS NOT BROOK’S FIRST BIG WICKET!

-

HARRY BROOK is making a habit of high-profile dismissals despite being a part-time pie-chucker. He strangled New Zealand’s greatest batsman Kane Williamson on day four in Wellington but also, as a 14-year-old, snaffled Joe Root, eight years his senior, in the Yorkshire nets. The pair, who shared a 302-run first-innings partnership, have different recollections of the event. ‘I was 14,’ Brook said. ‘My grandma was sat in the car watching. I bowled little gentle inswingers and I sneaked one through him.’ Root’s version? ‘He was bowling filthy seamers off the wrong foot,’ said the former England captain. ‘He got me out in the nets and he just continually talks about it. It’s so annoying.’
