We’re all off to snowy Spain!

- By Rachael Bunyan

SUNNY Majorca has been turned white after storms brought nearly 2ft of snow to the Spanish holiday island.

Roads were closed and power cuts hit dozens of towns as locals struggled to cope with the freakish weather conditions.

Officials issued a rare red alert warning for the second day in a row yesterday as a further 15ins (1.3ft) was expected to fall in the north’s Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. Storm Juliette has battered Majorca since Sunday and has brought blizzards and cold weather to the Balearic islands.

Spain’s meteorological agency AEMET warned the coastal regions in the north will be hit with 55mph winds and 26ft waves.

More than 20ins (1.6ft) of snow blanketed the town of Valldemossa where temperatures have plummeted to -2C (28.4F). The weather has led to power cuts in dozens of areas including Alaro and Vilafranca.

Ibiza has also been covered by snow. In Menorca active orange warnings for 56mph winds have left the island cut off by the sea following the closure of port Mao.

Storm Juliette also hit mainland Spain, with snow falling in Barcelona amid belowfreezing temperatures.
