ALASKA DAILY, DISNEY+
AFTER suffering a spectacular fall from grace in her old job, award-winning New York investigative reporter Eileen Fitzgerald is tempted to Alaska by a job offer from an old friend. It might offer a new start and a shot at redemption, but it also stirs up some old demons as Eileen is tasked — with the help of a young, Indigenous local reporter — with bringing to light the stories of the vast number of native women who vanish each year in the remote northern state. Much of Alaska consists of a forbidding wilderness where many settlements have no law enforcement presence, and public resources are thinly stretched — it’s a place where terrible secrets can remain hidden for years . . . Two-time Best Actress Oscar-winner Hilary Swank (pictured) brings just the right air of battered, world-weary competence to the role of Eileen in a six-episode series, inspired by a reallife investigation by the Anchorage Daily News, that isn’t afraid to walk on the dark side.
