Tour ‘copies LIV’
THe PGA Tour has been ridiculed by Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter for copying the rebel LIV circuit. From 2024 ‘designated’ tournaments, introduced this season as a lucrative response to the threat of LIV, will have reduced fields of 70 to 80 players with no cuts.
But the similarities to LIV’s format have been pounced upon, with Westwood tweeting: ‘I’ve spent the last year reading how good full fields and cuts are.’ Poulter, also a LIV defector, added: ‘Sounds very similar to another product that’s been spoken so badly about.’ Commissioner Jay Monahan claimed last year that the PGA Tour would not attempt to go ‘dollar for dollar’ against LIV.
