Been and scone: Woman has eaten one in all 244 National Trust cafes
AS Herculean tasks go, this one proved to be as tasty as it was epic.
Sarah Merker has finished a decade-long mission to eat 244 scones – having one at every National Trust site in England, Wales and Northern Ireland that serves the treat.
The 49-year-old finished her journey on Wednesday when she visited Northern Ireland’s Giant’s Causeway for one last goodie.
The marketing director, of Isleworth, west London, said: ‘It’s taken up a lot of my time and effort over the past ten years and I’ll really miss it.’ She started ranking each location’s scones online in 201 , and her blog was even immortalised in The National Trust Book Of Scones.
Ms Merker shared part of the trek with husband Peter, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and sadly died two years later. A Christmas pudding scone at Treasurer’s House in York was her favourite.
