In the sun, Baroness Bra at £7m villa she bought after £200m PPE probe raid
WALKING her spaniels and enjoying a glass of wine in the winter sun with her husband, Michelle Mone is making the most of her £7million Algarve villa.
Doug Barrowman apparently bought the property through an offshore firm last July – three months after the couple’s homes were raided by police investigating their £200million government PPE contract.
The bra tycoon and her husband boast an enviable property collection, including a £20million London house, an Isle of Man estate and a £40million Caribbean home. They flew to Faro last week by private jet and have been relaxing in restaurants and enjoying golf at the exclusive Quinta do Lago resort, according to the Daily Mirror.
Baroness Mone is being investigated by the National Crime Agency in a fraud probe into a Covid supplies company she recommended to ministers. Her homes in London and the Isle of Man were raided last April by NCA officers.
The peer is also being investigated by the House of Lords over concerns she may have failed to declare an interest in PPE Medpro and lobbying for it to win £203million in NHS contracts. The Government is suing the firm for allegedly breaching the terms of a deal to supply 25million surgical gowns. Questioned by reporters Baroness Mone, below, said: ‘Have you read the defence? Do you expect me to talk to you when you are being an a*******?’ Asked if she owned a nearby villa that is registered in Delaware – a US tax haven – she replied: ‘Nothing is owned by me. It is all owned by my husband.’ His spokesman said: ‘All laws and disclosures have been complied with regarding the property. It was not bought with profits from supplying PPE.’ Baroness Mone denies gaining from PPE Medpro deals.
