Idris: I’m shooting for the stars with Luther franchise

HE’S downplayed suggestions that he could be the next James Bond but Idris Elba is determined to turn crime thriller Luther into a series of big-budget films.

At the world premiere of the new Netflix film Luther: The Fallen Sun, he tells me: ‘My hope is that Luther can become its own franchise now and that we duplicate it and make more stories and take it slightly bigger.’

The Hackney-born star, 50, also used the premiere at the BFI IMAX in Waterloo to apologise to his wife, model Sabrina (right), for his time playing troubled detective John Luther. ‘I know I turn into a complete w***** when I’m playing John but she still loves me.’
