READER’S QUESTION

-

WHY am I getting leaves on my daffodils, but not many flowers?

Mrs A. Powell, norwich.

YOUR clumps of narcissi have become overcrowded. To get a better show next year, dig them up and plant them further apart. You must wait until they have finished flowering and died back down, by which time the soil may be too dry to replant.

So better to hold off until September when the soil becomes moist again. Then dig up the bulbs and replant them at three times the depth of the bulb 10cm apart.

This should ensure that you will see more flowers next year.
