Cate’s cuddle for Michelle the award-winner
THEY may be competing for the same award, but Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh looked like anything but rivals at the ceremony just a week before the Oscars.
The two actresses, who were nominated for best lead performance, shared a warm embrace on the red – or rather, blue – carpet in a show of good sportsmanship.
The women were at the 38th annual Independent Spirit film awards, which were held in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Ms Blanchett, 53, wore a caped trouser suit with electric blue detailing, while 60year-old Ms Yeoh chose a midnight blue dress with an extravagant set of mesh flower petals around the top.
It was Ms Yeoh who won the day, taking the lead performance award for her role in the science-fiction film Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Australian Ms Blanchett had been nominated for her star turn as a conductor in the film Tar. The gender- neutral category also included Irish heartthrob Paul Mescal for his role in Aftersun.
All three have also been nominated in the Academy Awards, which are due to be held next Sunday.
