We’re double trouble, twice over

Single mum’s two sets of identical twins... born just 15 months apart!

- By Richard Marsden

THESE brothers look like any other happy tots – but they have no idea how special they are.

The four boys are two sets of identical twins, conceived naturally and born just 15 months apart.

It is an exceptionally rare situation and, incredibly, mother Shauna Hughes conceived another set of twins in her first pregnancy but tragically miscarried.

Her oldest boys Frankie and Fenton are now 17 months and are brothers to two-month-old Louie and Luca.

Single mother Ms Hughes, 21, says she has only two to three hours of sleep each night and rarely gets a break, even with lots of help from the boys’ grandparents – and she would not have it any other way.

Ms Hughes, from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, says her heart ‘bursts with pride’ to see her four boys together.

The administration assistant, currently on maternity leave, had believed she was unable to have children. In 2019, she was diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition linked to infertility.

She said she was left ‘speechless’ at having two successive pairs of identical twins – and so, it seems, were her doctors. The Twins Trust charity said such a situation is ‘very rare’.
