Horse and McCartney!
Stella trots out her vegan message at Paris show
WILD horses couldn’t hold Stella McCartney back from mounting a challenge to mainstream fashion at her latest show yesterday.
In fact, she brought in seven Camargue greys alongside her models to highlight her mission to make clothes from plant-based alternatives to animal materials such as leather.
The Paris Fashion Week show at the 18th-century Manege de l’Ecole Militaire – France’s oldest riding school – featured accessories made from mushroom, grape and apple ‘leathers’.
‘There’s so much leather and feathers and fur on the runway, especially in winter, and I just wanted to show that you can do it in a different way,’ Ms McCartney, 51, told Vogue. ‘You don’t have to kill anything.’
The show also doubled as a tribute to her mother Linda, who died in 1998.
‘For my mum, riding her horse Lucky Spot was one of the most important parts of her life,’ Sir Paul McCartney’s daughter wrote on Twitter. ‘This is the same for me and my family today.’
The animals used yesterday were led by trainer Jean-Francois Pignon, described by Ms McCartney as ‘a horse whisperer… he’s a miracle’.
