- By Emma Powell Deputy Showbusiness News Editor

A WHEELCHAIR racer will become the first ever Blue Peter presenter with a visible disability.

Scottish-born Abby Cook will join the BBC children’s show as its 42nd host this week – starting her stint by abseiling down a viaduct.

Ms Cook, 20, was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome – a genetic condition affecting connective tissue, joints and bones – at birth.

She said: ‘I was speechless when I found out. It was very emotional knowing I’d be presenting a show

I love and grew up with.’

The athlete from Falkirk trains twice a week with Paralympians as part of the Forth Valley Flyers group. She has also worked with Forth Valley Disability Sport, supporting disabled and non-disabled young people to be active.

Blue Peter editor Ellen Evans said: ‘We knew Abby would be great as she has a real affinity for working with young people and the biggest heart.’ Ms Cook’s first live show will air at 5pm on Friday on CBBC.
