PICK OF TODAY’S TV

THE BAY, 9PM, ITV1

-

BEHIND every crime, there’s a family left behind to pick up the pieces — and that’s the focus of this Morecambe-set drama, which returns for a fourth series tonight. Liaison officer DS Jenn Townsend (Marsha Thomason) helps a family targeted in a devastating arson attack, while working with her colleagues to piece together clues and apprehend those responsible. So far, so police procedural, but this show is popular not just because there’s a big mystery to solve in each series — it’s what happens around the case that’s just as important. At the end of the last series, Jenn wasn’t so sure she could stick it out with her partner Chris (Barry Sloane, pictured with Thomason), but they seem to be in a better place — he even brings her pizza when she has to work late. And how are the teenage hormones in Jenn’s blended household? There is sure to be plenty of drama from those three youngsters, too. Meanwhile, Jenn’s boss, DI Tony Manning (Daniel Ryan), is behaving oddly — could that be a loved-up smile on the usually grumpy Inspector’s lips? If you missed the previous three series, you can catch up on ITVX.
