PICK OF TODAY’S RADIO
WOMEN TALKING ABOUT CARS, 7.30AM/12.30PM/5.30PM, R4 EXTRA
GREAT radio programmes can come from very simple ideas. This repeat series has famous women talking about their cars — well, they seem to be talking about their cars, but they are really talking about much, much more. Clever, funny Victoria Coren Mitchell is the presenter, and her guest today is the actress and writer Sheila Hancock (pictured), who enthuses about the lure of the Jaguar — but perhaps she’s really talking about her late husband, Inspector Morse star John Thaw. Next Wednesday, Victoria talks to comedian Jo Brand.
■ IT’S All Queens, All Day on BBC 6 Music. To mark International Women’s Day, the presenters will give their playlists over to tracks from women singers and musicians. LAUREN LAVERNE (7.30AM, 6 MUSIC) gets this musical celebration going; then, through the day, we’ll hear interviews from top artistes about the women musicians who’ve inspired them — and some unjustly neglected performers will get their moment in the limelight.
