POOR Bruckner, the Austrian composer, was crippled by a sense of inferiority, made worse by the contempt that some of his musical contemporaries showed him. When he read a disparaging comment about one of his symphonies, he called it Symphony No 0. Bruckner wrote the piece in 1869, between his First and Second Symphonies, but it didn’t get a premiere until 1924. Symphony No 0 concludes this evening’s concert from Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff, given by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and, though not a masterpiece, it is worth a listen.
