Stop polluting our rivers

THE excellent BBC documentary State Of Our Rivers by Paul Whitehouse highlighted the struggle we face in stopping water companies from dumping raw sewage in our precious waterways.

It seems to me that profits are all important to these companies, with the environment coming a very poor second. Margaret Thatcher’s utopian ideal of high investment and cleaner rivers following privatisation of the industry in the 1980s has clearly not been achieved.

We can’t allow this to continue for the sake of our children.
