Gareth’s shake up at the back

eNGLaNd manager Gareth Southgate faces a selection dilemma in defence as he finalises his first post-World Cup squad.

Southgate will name his squad for the euro 2024 qualifiers against italy and Ukraine on thursday and is considering whether to refresh his options at centre back.

John Stones, Harry maguire, eric dier and Conor Coady were taken to Qatar. maguire, a favourite of Southgate’s, is out of favour at manchester United, while Coady and dier could make way.

aC milan’s Fikayo tomori impressed against tottenham on Wednesday, though Sportsmail understands there are concerns over his ability on the ball.

Brighton’s Levi Colwill, on loan from Chelsea, is interesting Southgate, while Crystal Palace’s marc Guehi and aston Villa’s tyrone mings may also return to the fold.
