Ukraine gifted £1m Cup cash owed to Blues

- By MATT HUGHES

THE FA will donate almost £1million in gate receipts from Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final last season to Ukrainian charities in a move that highlights the Government’s slow progress in handing over cash from Roman Abramovich’s sale of the club. About £2.3billion from the sale is still in a frozen bank account a year after the Russian was sanctioned. The FA have made more headway in getting money to Ukraine and have already identified several charities working on the ground to fund. The donation will come from money ordinarily owed to Chelsea from the semi-final win over Crystal Palace at Wembley, but not their final defeat by Liverpool, as those gate receipts are kept by the FA for prize money and costs. The Abramovich donation to Ukraine has been held up by legal issues.
