Honour? My dad will just get a card, says Sunak in veiled swipe at Boris
RISHI Sunak yesterday took a thinly veiled swipe at Boris Johnson over the reports he nominated his father for a knighthood.
Asked by reporters on his way to Paris whether he agreed in principle with nominating relatives for honours, Mr Sunak said: ‘My dad’s going to get a card on Father’s Day and that is about that.’
Stanley Johnson, 82, would join his other son Jo in being honoured by the former PM. In 2021, Mr Johnson Snr was accused of inappropriately touching Tory MP Caroline Nokes and journalist Ailbhe Rea, at the 2003 and 2019 Conservative Party conferences respectively. At the time Mr Johnson Snr said he had ‘no recollection’ of Ms Nokes. It means the PM could come under pressure from his MPs to block a knighthood for Mr Johnson Snr.
