. . . AND FOUND
LAST autumn, John Argent of Yelverton, Devon asked after the National Service lads he befriended when he was an RAF corporal; he wondered how they had fared since their demob in 1962. He told us he’d been given responsibility for a room in a barrack block at RAF Marham which was home to 12 men. He got to know them well and on evenings off, they’d often relax together over a pint or two at the village pub. John said the names he recalled included John Hearn, Alan Branch, Alec Cornall, Warren Hotchkiss and Matt Bainbridge — their t RAF trade was called Electrical Mechanic Air. ‘I’d love to hear from any of them,’ said John. ‘We are now all in our in 80s.’ As reported earlier, we traced Warren Hotchkiss and John Hearn, only to learn that both passed away. Now there is further sad news. Through locating Alec A Cornall’s daughter, Lesley, we’ve learnt that Alec A died in Torbay in 2004. John Argent has been in contact with Lesley and sent her photos of her dad.
