Snow folly

I WAS shocked to see how unprepared a lot of motorists were setting off on long car journeys in last week’s snow.

Some left home with inches of snow on the bonnet and roof, and iced-over windows.

It’s just stupidity not to dress properly for winter conditions. A young woman interviewed on TV after spending more than three hours in snow on the M62, the highest motorway in England, was wearing an off-the-shoulder dress.

If you have to travel, make sure your vehicle is up to it — check your brakes, tyres, wipers and lights — and you have plenty of fuel, warm clothing and a fully charged mobile phone.
