PROFESSOR Carl Heneghan and Dr Tom Jefferson were correct to warn the lockdowns would bankrupt Britain (Mail), but they weren’t the only ones saying this.

While most of the country was getting into hysterics fuelled by Boris Johnson, Matt Hancock and the scientists, right from the beginning the Mail’s Peter Hitchens was warning us of the damage restrictions would cause.

I’d like to thank him for keeping me composed when all around was fear, panic and overreaction.

The NHS is in an even bigger mess, children have lost out on two years of education and the cost of living has risen dramatically. We can’t expect to give millions of people 80 per cent of their wages to sit at home watching television for months on end without paying the consequences.

DAVID McLACHLAN,

Oundle, Northants.
