Royals brave squalls as King hails ‘amazing’ Commonwealth
MEMBERS of the royal Family braved blustery conditions yesterday for the annual Commonwealth Day service – with the Queen Consort and the Princess of Wales both having to hang on to their hats.
The King paid tribute to his ‘remarkable’ mother the late Queen as he delivered his inaugural message, breaking with tradition by giving the address in person. The royals were greeted by members

of the Ngati ranana London Maori Club, who performed outside Westminster Abbey ahead of the service.
Camilla, 75, wore a sapphire blue outfit by Fiona Clare and a Philip Treacy beret with one of the late Queen’s sapphire and diamond brooches.
Kate, 41, looked equally elegant in a £3,000 erdem outfit and a diamond Prince of Wales Feathers brooch – a gift from the King.
The new Duke and Duchess of edinburgh – edward and sophie – and Princess Anne were also in attendance. e. King Charles told the 2,000- strong g congregation: ‘Commonwealth Day y was an occasion of particular pride for r my beloved mother... a treasured d opportunity to celebrate our Commonwealth family, to whose service she dedicated her long and remarkable e life. In succeeding Her Majesty as Head d of the Commonwealth, I draw great t strength from her example.’
The theme this year was ‘forging a sustainable - and peaceful common future’, ’, with the King saying the Commonwealth - ‘can play an indispensable role in n the most pressing issues of our time’.
The service featured performances s by saxophonist Yolanda brown, the e rwandan National ballet and an allfemale - choir from Cyprus.
