Taking a bow: Proms’ Katie plays Albert Hall

-

THE FACE of the BBC Proms, Katie Derham’s own dreams of becoming a professional musician were shelved as her broadcasting career flourished.

However, the Radio 3 presenter had the chance to play her violin at the Royal Albert Hall at the weekend in front of an audience that included King Charles.

Derham, 52, took to the stage alongside the Massed Bands of

His Majesty’s Royal Marines as they performed Away With Your Fairies, by Thomas Bergersen.

‘It had been a rather long time since the fellow had an outing,’ Derham tells her fans next to this photograph of her holding her violin backstage.

While she chose a glittery silver dress, the King donned his distinct red Royal Marines uniform for the first time as their Captain General.
