Race day.. .and fashion wins by a fur-long!
THE dress code may have been relaxed but there was no telling the punters at Cheltenham yesterday as they paraded in fur and feathered finery just like before.
The Jockey Club announced last month that restrictions were being scrapped to make its racecourses more ‘accessible and inclusive’.
But traditional tweeds and fabulous fascinators were still on show, along with a few jeans and leather jackets previously not allowed.
Matt Powell, 32, from Worcester, said: ‘I’m all for the new arrangements. It’s expensive to dress up.’
His friend Russell O’Neill added: ‘It already seems to be contributing to a more relaxed atmosphere here.’
TV presenter Carol Vorderman, combining a faux-fur shrug with a grey bodice and black leather skirt, gloves and boots, was among head-turners at the society event yesterday.
Also there were Cheltenham regulars Zara and Mike Tindall
– the King’s niece is a member of the racecourse’s committee. The Gloucestershire town’s races, dating back to the early 19th century, often coincide with spring’s first flourishes, but spectators were greeted by grey skies with temperatures hovering around5 degrees C.
