Tyrant: The Rise Of Adolf Hitler, 9pm, Ch5

THIS new, threepart series takes another look at Hitler’s rise and his ambitions for an ethnically pure Greater German Reich that would sweep up most of central and eastern Europe. This first episode focuses on the six-month period from March to September 1938, analysing Hitler’s movements day by day, week by week. March 1938 was the month that Germany annexed Austria and the countdown to the Second World War began. Meanwhile, Hitler (pictured) was whipping up support among the German people and started playing games with Western leaders in Britain and France — and setting his sights on his next target, Czechoslovakia. This is far from the first series to explore Hitler’s rise to power, but it makes for especially disconcerting viewing at a time when Putin’s forces show no signs of withdrawing from Ukraine.
