THE FOLK SHOW WITH MARK RADCLIFFE, 9PM, RADIO 2
SINISTER songs bring a shudder to Mark Radcliffe’s show when he’s joined by the singer and multi-instrumentalist Lisa Knapp and singer Marry Waterson, who, along with composer and performer Nathaniel Mann, have formed a new trio (pictured), under the name Hack-Poets Guild. In the Bodleian Library, the trio found a cache of old broadside ballads and set them to music. There’s an awful lot about hangings and highwaymen, which they’ve turned into spine-chilling tracks for their debut album, Blackletter Garland.
THE Lathums bring a welcome blast of live music to Radio 2 this evening. JO WHILEY (7.30PM, RADIO 2) welcomes the Wigan indie rockers to the Maida Vale studios to play hits from their number-one debut album, How Beautiful Life Can Be. They’ll also give us tracks from their new release, From Nothing To A Little Bit More — including the sad yet brilliant single Struggle — and a previously unheard cover.
