SIR Michael Caine’s 90th birthday bash was always going to be a star-studded affair – but it became Mission Remarkable when Tom Cruise snubbed the Oscars and flew over to attend.
The eclectic guest list at London’s River Cafe on Tuesday also included TV stars David
Walliams, 51, and Denise Welch. Sir Michael – whose films include The Italian Job and Get Carter – sat next to Mission Impossible star Cruise, 60, whom he befriended on the set of 2002 spy spoof, Austin Powers In
Goldmember. Loose Women star Welch, 64 – who got to know the birthday boy after her artist husband Lincoln Townley painted him – had Cruise and other guests in hysterics with a joke about Sir Michael and his wife, Shakira, 76.
Posting a video on Instagram, she wrote: ‘Such an honour to be asked by Shakira to say a few words at Sir Michael Caine’s 90th birthday!!! He loves a dirty joke and so does Tom Cruise, it appears!!!!’
Cruise skipped the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles after his £140million film, Top Gun: Maverick, got only six nominations.
