A TOWN CALLED MALICE, 9PM, SKY MAX

-

SKY’S new gangster drama is a joyful romp through the early 1980s on the Costa del Crime, a time when Spain was a haven for British villains. Packed full of style, energy and action — not to mention great music from the decade — the eight-parter follows the Lord crime family from South London, headed by Jason Flemyng as Albert Lord and Martha Plimpton as his wife, hard-as-nails Mint Ma (pictured). Limping away from a bust-up with another mob, the Lords decamp to Spain to try to rebuild their reputation. There, they are reunited with son Gene and his girlfriend Cindy (Jack Rowan and Tahirah Sharif), who had already fled after a run-in with police — but it’s by no means a case of happy families sunning themselves on the beach, and the power struggle between Albert and Gene is central to the story. ‘Malice is an explosive collision of crime thriller and family saga which follows the Lord family wreaking havoc on the Costa del Sol,’ says creator Nick Love, director of films such as football hooligan drama The Firm and the 2012 reboot of The Sweeney.
