Lineker ‘had special agreement to tweet’
GARY Lineker had a ‘special agreement’ with the BBC’s director-general to tweet about refugees, his agent has revealed.
Jon Holmes said the row over his client’s post had ‘collapsed into a shambles’ despite him trying to get ‘everyone to calm down’.
The Match of the Day host’s post, likening the Government’s language over a new migration policy to that used in 1930s Germany, sparked a crisis at the corporation. On Monday, the BBC announced Lineker, 2, would be returning to MOTD.
But Mr Holmes wrote in The New Statesman: ‘Gary... as he saw it, had a special agreement with Tim Davie, the BBC’s director-general, to tweet about these issues.’
