Rhyme For Our Time

AN ODE TO ST PATRICK’S DAY

Take a piece of Heaven Drop it in the sea

And watch it as it ripples out

As a land forms gradually. Add some myths and legends

And a cheeky little chap Wearing a buckled waistcoat And a firmly placed black cap.

Don’t forget the music Of the happiest kind That raises up your spirit Away from the daily grind. With a little three-leafed emblem Attached to your lapel Soon you will be enchanted

And drawn in under its spell.

There will be no snakes to bother you

As a famous saint ensures That snakes will all be banished

From these misty shores. So just sit back and take in The beauty of the scene And feel the joy of Ireland With its 40 shades of green.
