Look that says Kate means business on children’s crusade

- By Rebecca English Royal Editor

THE Princess of Wales dressed the part yesterday as she took her campaign to improve the early lives of children to business leaders.

Kate wore a cream £1,490 Alexander McQueen blazer, tailored trousers and heels as she brought together some of the UK’s biggest companies to discuss how workplaces can better support family life.

Launching her Business Taskforce for Early Childhood at the City headquarters of NatWest, the Princess said she hoped that those which joined the initiative would help

Kate, 41, has made raising awareness of the importance of children’s development up to the age of five in shaping the rest of a person’s life a central plank of her work, and has already set up her Centre for Early Childhood.

Speaking to a group of chief executives in the NatWest boardroom, she told them: ‘I believe... we need two things to really transform society for generations to come.

‘The first is to prioritise creating working environments that provide the support and training your workforce needs to cultivate and maintain its own social and emotional wellbeing.

‘This will benefit them personally and professionally as well as creating a better working culture within your organisations. The second is a more concentrated effort in supporting the social and emotional development of our youngest children.’

Among those attending yesterday’s meeting were representatives from NatWest, Unilever, Aviva, Deloitte, Ikea, Coop, Lego and Iceland.

Dame Alison Rose, NatWest’s chief executive, said the ‘growth of the economy is inseparable to the growth of our nation’s children’. The group will meet again in the autumn.
