PRE-DATE NERVES?
No — I’m 60, I don’t get nervous any more. as for a blind date, well I’ve tried everything else. I used an app to meet a man in Florence and one in athens. I even contemplated only dating men in cities two hours’ flight from London City airport, but the pandemic got in the way.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS?
There was no initial phwoar — although you can tell Niall was a good-looking guy when he was younger. he was comfortable in his own skin. he clearly takes care of himself, too. he didn’t stand up to greet me, but we did shake hands.
EASY TO TALK TO?
Yes, although Niall was more chatty than me. his sister put him up for the date, whereas I’d been down all dating avenues. as an entrepreneur in the hotel industry, Niall has lived and worked all over the world. I’ve travelled and spent a few years living in Turkey as I married a local. Niall and I are both impulsive in our approach to life.
EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?
No, Niall is a freedom person — like me. Very little fazes us.
DID SPARKS FLY?
I reaLLY wanted them to, but there were none for me. The date felt like meeting up with a long-lost friend. we ate a fabulous lunch, and it felt natural to exchange numbers when Niall said he was interested to hear my music.
SEE HIM AGAIN?
I mIghT. I’d like to introduce my friend to his 70-year- old brother. I’d also like us to be friends.
WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?
I CouLdN’T tell. did he fancy me? I’m not sure. But Niall’s got class and we share a similar outlook on life. we walked to the station and said goodbye with a kiss on each cheek.

Yes they would. The friends I go travelling with are very similar in outlook to Niall.
