Thug who stabbed ex to death and tried to behead her gets life

- By George Odling Crime Correspondent

A MAN who stalked his exgirlfriend from Wales to London and tried to behead her in front of her new partner was jailed for life yesterday.

Dennis Akpomedaye will serve at least 29 years for stabbing Ania Jedrkowiak, 21, almost 40 times with a kitchen knife.

The jobless loner, 30, made the 130-mile trip to ambush her as she walked home from work because he was unable to accept the end of their relationship and her move from Newport. He had warned her: ‘We will be together no matter what – I will find you.’

Her sister, Katareyna Glowacka, 39, yesterday labelled the Nigerianborn killer a ‘proper coward’ for refusing to attend court for his trial or sentencing.

Kingston Crown Court heard that the couple met through a dating site in January 2021 after Miss Jedrkowiak moved to Britain from her native Poland to study.

After the relationship ended and she began seeing another man who worked with her at a Las Iguanas restaurant, the killer travelled by coach from Newport to London on May 15 last year to track her down.

He was seen on CCTV pacing back and forth outside the restaurant in Ealing with his face covered by a scarf, before travelling to her home and then spending hours riding buses around the area.

The next day Akpomedaye bought a £ 4.99 knife and returned to the restaurant. He followed his victim and her boyfriend when they left the restaurant before stabbing her to death and running away.

Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC said: ‘ The pathology report

‘He is a proper coward’

suggests the injuries are consistent with a large knife being used to saw at the deceased’s neck in an apparent attempt to decapitate her.’

Akpomedaye was arrested at Victoria coach station the next day. He denied murder but was convicted last week, having refused to attend his trial.

Miss Glowacka said: ‘It just shows his true character, that he is a proper coward. He is not able to face us, he’s not able to look us in the eyes.’
