NORWICH boss David Wagner looked on course for his 20th defeat in 43 games at the hands of Liam Manning’s new-look BRISTOL CITY yesterday but a stunning late fightback helped to ease the pressure on the under-fire Canaries manager. After Jason Knight opened the scoring for Bristol City, George Tanner’s own goal gave the visitors a way back into the game on the hour mark before forward Adam Idah outmuscled Zak Vyner to tuck home a dramatic 95th-minute winner. That sparked wild celebrations as Wagner charged down the touchline to celebrate in a bundle with his players. ‘It meant a great deal to all of us,’ the 52-year-old admitted. ‘I’ve been getting questions about me for six weeks and I don’t like to answer about me. We have to pay credit to the players. The dressing room is full of good characters who I trust and believe in.’

There were three goals in the opening seven minutes as LEEDS kept themselves within touching distance of the Championship’s top two with a 3-2 win over MIDDLESBROUGH on Saturday.

Daniel James and Crysencio Summerville, Leeds’ two shortest players, even scored with headers.

‘Probably every football fan must have enjoyed this game,’ said their boss Daniel Farke. ‘I am a football fan myself, so I loved what we did, but as a manager I liked the second half, when we calmed everything down and had everything under control. ‘It was a priceless three points against a very good opponent.’

Wes Burns’ goal of the season contender helped IPSWICH to a 2-1 victory over COVENTRY. George Hirst had opened the scoring for the Tractor Boys, who doubled their lead through Burns’ stunning strike with the outside of his right foot.

‘I’ve seen Wes try that 20 times in training over the last couple of weeks and not seen him do that once!’ said Hirst. Coventry were given hope late on when Brandon Williams turned the ball into his own net but Kieran McKenna’s side held on for the win, and remain one point off league leaders Leicester. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY secured only their second win of the

season as they beat promotion contenders BLACKBURN 3-1 thanks to goals from Bailey Cadamarteri — son of former Everton player Danny — Marvin Johnson and Josh Windass at Hiillsborough. Cadamarteri’s first senior goal for the Owls set them on their way before Sammie Szmodics hit back for Rovers.

Johnson restored Wednesday’s lead before Windass made sure of the result in stoppage time. Owls manager Danny Rohl said: ‘You saw the quality from them but my team fights until the end in their belief in what we are doing and I’m so happy to take the points.’
