How should we react to China threat?

-

IT WAS reported (Mail) that China launched cyber-attacks against the UK. This was probably achieved simply by the push of a button in Beijing, given our reliance on telecoms equipment supplied by Huawei, which of course has no connection to the government of The People’s Republic Of China. I apologise for such simple-minded cynicism.

MALC STACEY, Youlgreave, Derbys. CHINA supplies us with everything from footwear to electrical items. its products are competitively priced and often better than its rivals’ thanks to cheap (sometimes slave) labour, cheaper energy (mainly from polluting coal-fired power stations) and government subsidies. And China has been investing some of the profits it makes in cyber-attacks on us. We keep being told it would be impossible to stop trading with China but we must prepare for that eventuality. After russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it would be unthinkable to invest there; China is likewise seeking to extend its territory in the South China Sea and Taiwan. As a UK voter, your name and address will probably be on a file in Beijing. it is time to raise defence spending to three per cent and prepare to end trade with China.

CHRIs KING, Chichester, W. sussex. ONE way to retaliate against China would simply be to chuck all their students out of our universities. The trouble is, we don’t have the b***s.

CHRISTOPHER ELLIS, Colkirk, Norfolk.

WHILE the government is at last waking up to the threat China presents, the public has yet to do so.

PHILIP MENZIES,

Hornchurch, essex. WHY are we still giving foreign aid to China? They spy on us and tried to run ‘police stations’ here.

HAMISH SMILLIE, Whitstable, Kent. IT IS time the West looked elsewhere for cheap goods, such as to Eastern Europe and Africa. DOUGLAS ORCHARD, Twickenham, Middx.
