Forest to hear ref and VAR’s conversation
NOTTINGHAM Forest will be sent recordings of referee anthony taylor and Var stuart attwell’s conversations from their 2-0 loss to everton over the next few days, and the audio may be broadcast publicly next week. Mail Sport has learned one of Forest’s three penalty appeals which were not referred to Var by taylor is likely to feature in next week’s Referees Mic’d Up programme, in which PGMOL chief howard Webb and michael owen analyse refereeing decisions. Forest demanded audio of the incidents was made public in a series of extraordinary statements which could see the club, boss Nuno espirito santo, defender Neco Williams and refereeing consultant mark Clattenburg charged by the Fa. PGMOL are unhappy with them questioning attwell’s integrity by saying he supports Luton and asking for him to be replaced as Var, but they will comply with the club’s request for the audio. PGMOL also remain committed to transparency, which was introduced when Webb joined. there are no plans to release all the audio, however, as they did after Liverpool’s loss to tottenham when Var officials failed to overturn an offside as they mistakenly believed Luis Diaz’s goal had been awarded by referee simon hooper. the Mic’d Up programme on sky sports and TNT sports features Webb and owen analysing controversial incidents. the next show will be recorded on monday and broadcast the following day. Forest were furious at being denied three penalties at goodison Park, particularly when taylor missed a foul by ashley Young on Callum hudson-odoi which attwell did not review. hooper will take charge of Forest’s clash with manchester City on sunday, their first match since the goodison episode. he refereed Forest’s recent 3-1 defeat by spurs, when santo criticised him for not punishing James maddison for apparently punching ryan Yates. the club’s appeal against their four-point deduction for breaking spending rules will be heard today.
