Story of woe for Zendaya’s Romeo as chaos hits play
SHE flew across the Atlantic just days after her epic Met Gala appearance to support her English boyfriend Tom Holland in the West End.
But, rather than cheering him on during the first preview of Romeo And Juliet, Zendaya was forced to console her other half when the performance was suddenly cancelled.
The American actress, 27, was seen accompanying a downcast Holland, also 27, to lunch in London on Friday after preparations for his eagerly awaited stage show were thrown into chaos. Holland, who sported a short haircut, kept his head down as they strolled hand in hand.
On Friday, organisers postponed Saturday’s show at the Duke of York’s Theatre due to ‘technical aspects of
the production’ needing ‘further preparation’.
Spider-Man star Holland, who plays Romeo, will instead take to the stage tonight. Some of the 60,000 fans who rushed to buy tickets, paying up to £274 in February, shared their disappointment and anger on social media.
They have been sent a link to exchange their tickets for a later date, but producers have warned there is ‘limited availability’.
Many have been attempting to sell their tickets.
But the PR company which is looking after the production has confirmed that ‘no more previews are being cancelled’.
According to the website Deadline, theatre insiders said there had been ‘frantic scenes’ in rehearsals.
The play had been rumoured to include an ambitious scene on the theatre’s roof, to create a spectacle that would be filmed by drones and beamed into the theatre before Holland made his way inside to the stage.
