WISHING ON A STAR

Striker Murray hoping spell with Amateur League side helps revive Premiership career

because I had an opportunity to play at the top and I screwed it up so I want to get back to enjoying my football, scoring and helping the team, whether that be a top team or a middle team or a bottom team, either way, I’m starting over again.

“I want to start over again, a fresh start and get my name back out there, in the papers every week scoring goals and getting the plaudits for it.”

Although he wasn’t on target in their weekend win over Rathfriland, a Paul Berne header and a Barry Mckervey penalty moving Murray’s new club to sixth in the table, they could now climb to the summit should they win their games in hand over their rivals.

And Murray, for one, is convinced they have what it takes to go all the way as he sets his sights on a second Premier Division medal to add to the first one he landed as an 18-year-old with Newington.

“Everything is going good at the minute, everything I hit seems to be going into the net, so it’s not too bad,” said Murray.

“This Crumlin Star team is a great footballing side, when you go and watch some Amateur League teams they just hoof the ball but we seem to be playing really good football, there’s a couple of cracking players at the club.

“I was told Downpatrick are the team to beat but we drew 2-2 with them (Murray scored 2) and we missed a couple of great chances that day.

“The second half, everything went for them so I think we are strong enough and fit enough to win the league.

“I’ve spoken to a few Irish League clubs about next season and it’s only a matter of time before I decide.

“I’ve spoken to Chew about it and he’s told me I can go any time I want but I said I’m here until the end of the season no matter what, I can’t play in the Premiership so I can enjoy this until the end of the season.

“Big Chew has been a big help to me and I feel as if I owe him something until the end of the season and hopefully I can bring a cup back or help them win the league.”
